One thing that you can always expect from Marco Cafolla, the creative force behind Mama Terra, is the unexpected.
And this new single, ‘Inner Space (Narration by Conrad Roberts)’ was both expected and unexpected.
Expected in its breathtaking composition and musician artistry, unexpected in the dramatic and cinematic groove it delivers.
It’s an Indiana Jones meets Space Odyssey journey, through stunning arcs of sound, weaving melody that gets right under your skin, and instruments layering to build a perfectly joyous frenzy with urgency, before almost dropping off the edge into an abyss of raw, gravelly spoken word delivery from Conrad Roberts (words by Marco). The message? A reminder of resilience, self-reflection and love for the world.
With an ending as dramatic as its build, it’s a piece that could easily find its way onto the music stands of a symphonic orchestra at The Albert Hall, and yet stands tall and proud with the super music talents of Marco, Konrad, Mikey, Doug, and Ross, lifted further by Rachel’s vocals.
The track closes with almost deafening silence, and an introspective echo questioning whether we have been left to drift in outer space or, perhaps, our own inner space.
An outstanding follow-up to debut album, ‘The Summoned’, also stunningly curated. If this is just the start to the new album, due to be released later this year on Acid Jazz Records, then strap in because it is going to be stratospheric.
